Fed: Austs continue to believe in US alliance: Howard
Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD says Australians continue to believe in the American alliance
partly because of the way the United States saved the country in World War Two.
Mr HOWARD says Australia needs the alliance because of the world's security threats.
But he's told ABC radio the links between the two countries are grounded in WWII, when
Australia asked for America's support.
He says the links are very deep in the Australian psyche.
Mr HOWARD says Australia is a country which from a security point of view needs the
American alliance.
But he says despite the close relationship, there are areas of disagreement.
He says while Australia had backed the International Criminal Court, the US had not.
Mr HOWARD says Australia is an equal partner in the American alliance.
