NSW: Small earthquake shakes Cooma

An tremor measuring three on the Richter scale has shaken Cooma in southern New South Wales.

Geoscience Australia's DAVID JEPSEN says the quake was centred about 10 kilometres
northwest of Cooma at 1.30am (AEDT).

He says they've had a lot of reports from residents who either felt or heard the earthquake.

Mr JEPSEN says earthquakes of this size are usually felt up to 25 kilometres from their
centre and don't cause structural damage.

Small quakes are common in the region, and on average a quake measuring three on the
Richter scale hits the region every year.
